Snack expectations in Grade 2
At CIS, we like to promote healthy eating habits. Kids are active, growing and need a lot of energy. Their small stomachs and little appetites mean that they need to eat more often than adults-about every two hours! Snacks are like mini-meals that help provide the extra energy and nutrients children need. If possible, please have a selection of fruits, vegetables, grains and/or milk products. Please pack 2 snacks and one lunch on full schooldays.
The following is a list of snacks that we welcome in the classroom:
Healthy Snack Choices:
- Buns, bread or bagels - fresh fruit
- Bread sticks - vegetable juices
- Crackers - unsweetened fruit juices
- Pita bread - unsweetened canned or frozen fruit
- Whole grain products - white milk
- Plain cereal - cheese
- Meat(Halal) - Yogurt
- Fish - Granola bars
- Eggs - raw vegetables
Our classroom / school is a PEANUT FREE ZONE. Due to severe peanut allergy in our school, we ask that you please check the ingredients of certain products before sending them to school with your child. If an item does arrive at school with nuts, we will send it back with a note. Thanks you for your help with this.
The following foods are NOT considered “healthy” and we would encourage these items to remain “home snacks”.
Please note that the food options in our canteen are not healthy. Hence students will be allowed to use canteen not more than once a week.
Thank you very much for all your help in encouraging your children to make healthy choices.
