Home Reading
Students will read at least 15 minutes every night. I ask that you participate in this reading experience with your child. Your role will be to go through the book with your child using the reading/comprehension strategies that I have listed.
Q: What do you think the story is about? Predicting
Q: What do you think will happen next? *use the clues in the story (e.g. pictures etc) Visualizing
Q: Retell what happened in the beginning/middle/end Questioning
Q: What other story does this book remind you of? (text to text connections)
Q: Describe a time in your own life when you felt the same way as the character in the story? Connecting (text to self connections) or Q: Where have you seen this happen at school, community etc? (text to world connections)
Q: How could the story have began or ended differently? Inferring (adding own ideas)
Q: What was the solution or problem? Summarizing
Students will share their experience of Family Literacy with their class through various activities. Students may wish to bring the book they read the night before to class.

- Not too fast, not too slow,
- Stop at period.
4. Accuracy:
- Chunk the big words,
- Re-read when you come to a word that you don't understand,
- Read all way to the end of the words (don't miss- s, ed)
5. Comprehension-
- Does it make sense?
- Make connection. (text to text, text to life experience, and text to world)
